Animal rescue shelters are a huge benefit to our society, taking in unwanted and stray animals and working to provide them with new, loving homes. In the past few years, shelters have seen a greatly increased demand for their services as more people are finding themselves unable to care for beloved family pets. These days, it isn’t just cats and dogs who need the help of a shelter. Horses are finding their way to shelters more often too.
Many of the animals placed in shelters are surrendered by their owners when they are unable to pay for the expenses of keeping the animals. This means most of the animals will have been loved and are not abuse cases, and you may be able to find the perfect horse right in your local shelter.
In addition to helping the shelter by finding a home for a horse, you can usually adopt them for much less than you would pay to buy a horse from an individual seller. Blondie, the last of a group of horses up for adoption at Animal Care and Control of Palm Beach, is up for adoption for only $50.
With so many animals in need of care, it just makes sense to go to a local animal shelter first when you are ready to add a new member to your family. Many of these animals will be euthanized if they are unable to be placed in loving homes, and that is a sad fate for an animal whose only fault is that its owners fell on hard times and were unable to care for it.
