Rain, Rain, Dark, and More Rain

Let's face it. Horses are glorious fun in the summer, when they've shed out sleek and glossy, and daylight lasts for hours after you get home from work. The warm weather and sunny afternoons and evenings make it a pleasure to spend time with your horse, in the arena or out on the trails.

In the winter, though, when you wake up, clean stalls, feed, and go to work, all before the sun is all the way up? Less fun. And when you come home in the dark, then feed, and clean that stall yet again? Way less fun, still.

About Buying that First Horse . . .

So you're thinking about finally getting that horse you've always wanted, and you're noticing that with the slowing economy horse prices have come way, way down. Don't get in too big of a hurry, okay? There's a lot to think about, first.

There's an old joke among horse-people about buying the horse itself being the cheapest part of getting and having a horse. stupidest things your trainer has ever said

ahhhhh! so many!!!! but the best one was the seat bones. "go in to your room by yourself and find your seatbones". the funniest one was how my trainer said that the holes in her ugly tight riding jeans were from holding on w/ her thighs...sure...the REAL reasons are that her legs swing back and forth, making a rub, and also that she is so fat that her stretch jeans just can't stretch enough.

one of the ponies at our barn, Bomar, is leaving! he was going to one more show this week, but our little friend jacque doesn't want to show him by herself because then she'd have to do all the work. so i'm not sure if he is showing, but he will leave after the show or in a couple days. i used to ride this pony when i was at another barn. i'll miss him soooo much!

i got to ride bomar yesterday and he was really good! i will post my bomar parkside pix soon.

CAROLINE
i just got the November issue of Practical Horseman, and there's a little article on US Vaulting Championships. Guess where they took place!?
Mount Holyoke College! I told Callie that that place is great! It has the best horsey facilites ever, tons of shows with other colleges and clinics and shows and everything! And it's a good school.
I think you'd like it
